The University of Jos Senate has elected Professor Pic Charles Onwochei as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration). The decision was made during the 4th Special Senate Meeting for the 2024/2025 academic session held on Tuesday, 18th November 2025.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Mr. Emmanuel Madugu, Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications, on behalf of the Registrar.
Professor Onwochei, from the Department of Religion and Philosophy in the Faculty of Arts, will serve a two-year renewable term. His appointment takes effect immediately but remains subject to confirmation by the University Governing Council.
The Vice-Chancellor, who chaired the meeting, presented two nominees—Professor Onwochei and Professor Ishmael Ogboru. However, Professor Ogboru stepped down, leading to the unanimous adoption of Professor Onwochei.
Professor Onwochei is a renowned scholar in Ethics and Philosophy and has held key positions within the institution. He previously served as Head of the Department of Religion and Philosophy and as Director of the Directorate of Basic and Advanced Studies (DBAS).
He hails from Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State and is widely respected for his academic and administrative experience.
