The Berom Progressive Minds (BPM) has strongly condemned what it described as a “malicious and unfounded” attack on the President of the Berom Education and Cultural Organisation (BECO), Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop, by one Steve Damar.

In a statement issued on November 18, 2025, and signed by BPM National Publicity Secretary Tok Morgan, the group said Steve Damar’s video released on November 14 amounted to character assassination and an attempt to undermine a respected Berom leader.

The BPM noted that any attack on the BECO President is a direct affront to the entire Berom nation, stressing that the institution remains revered and must be protected from “external interference.”

The group questioned the credibility and motives of Steve Damar, describing him as a non-Berom who lacks the authority to meddle in the internal affairs of the Berom people.

BPM further alleged that Damar’s own record in the civil service was tainted, recalling claims of abscondment from the Riyom Local Government Education Authority, where he reportedly continued receiving salaries for over a year before resigning.

According to the statement, Damar’s attempt to lean on his mother’s heritage to gain legitimacy among the Berom people was “superficial and unacceptable,” with the group also referencing past disputes involving the Mupun nation.

The BPM praised Da Gyang Dudu Dalyop for what it called exemplary leadership, commending his maturity in handling the matter and his continued commitment to the development of the Berom community.

The group said it would not remain silent while individuals attempt to discredit leaders who have contributed significantly to the progress of Berom sons and daughters.

BPM also warned that it is prepared to pursue legal action should Damar continue what it termed baseless attacks on Dalyop and other Berom leaders.

The statement concluded by calling on all well-meaning Berom sons and daughters to stand united in defending their leaders and supporting ongoing efforts toward community advancement.
