The Plateau State Government has announced major changes in its political appointments, beginning with the replacement of Chief Latep Dabang as the Governor’s Political Adviser. In a press release dated July 1, 2025, the government stated that Dabang was relieved of his duties to allow him to pursue “new found affiliations and future ambitions.”

Taking over as the new Political Adviser is Rt. Hon. Istifanus Mwanast, a seasoned politician and former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly. The government expressed confidence that Mwanast’s wealth of experience would strengthen the administration’s political strategy and development agenda.

Additionally, Governor Caleb Mutfwang approved the appointment of five new special advisers and assistants. The list includes Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan as Special Adviser on National Party Affairs and Hon. Habila Mutla as Special Adviser on Grassroots Soccer Development.

Other appointees are Dr. Markus Avong (Special Adviser on Livestock and Veterinary Services), Hon. Hassana Kwande (Liaison Officer for Qua’an-Pan South), and Emmanuel Dung Solomon (Senior Special Assistant on Artisanal Mining). The government directed all new appointees to assume their roles immediately.

The reshuffle comes shortly after the resignation of the State Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan, signaling a broader realignment in Plateau’s political landscape. Analysts suggest the moves aim to consolidate the administration’s control ahead of future elections.

In the statement, Secretary to the State Government Arc. Samuel Jatau urged the new appointees to serve with “diligence, loyalty, and commitment” to Plateau’s progress. The government also thanked Dabang for his contributions to the administration.

The changes take immediate effect, with observers keenly watching how the new team will navigate the state’s evolving political dynamics. More developments are expected as the government continues its reorganization.
