The Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Climate Change, and Mineral Development, Hon. Peter Kanang Gwom, has reaffirmed the Plateau State Government’s commitment to deepening partnerships that promote environmental sustainability and climate action. He made this known while hosting a delegation from the Ministry of Water Resources and Energy, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Mr. Wilson Manji, Chief Technical Adviser to the Executive Governor on Development Partnership.
Hon. Gwom stated that the visit was timely, aligning with the government’s push for responsible development. “We welcome every opportunity that helps us build capacity, protect our environment, and secure a cleaner, safer future for our people,” he said.
He emphasized that the State is focused on working with credible development partners to design and implement sustainable policies that benefit local communities and ensure the protection of natural ecosystems. “This partnership opens the door for technical support and long-term collaboration,” he added.
Commending the UNDP’s role in advancing global development, Hon. Gwom assured the team that Plateau is committed to aligning with best practices, especially in areas that connect environmental conservation with economic empowerment.
Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Wilson Manji highlighted that Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration prioritizes strategic engagement with international bodies to enhance development outcomes across key sectors. He noted that such partnerships help bridge the gap between government intentions and measurable impact.
The UNDP delegation expressed readiness to work with Plateau State in developing inclusive programmes that support environmental protection, community resilience, and sustainable tourism. They said their focus is to help Plateau align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The Ministry of Water Resources and Energy praised the Plateau State Government for its proactive approach and pledged its support for cross-sector collaboration that improves access to water, energy, and green infrastructure.
The engagement ended with a shared vision to deepen cooperation through joint planning, policy alignment, and community-based initiatives aimed at creating a more sustainable and climate-resilient Plateau State.
