In a renewed effort to make markets across Langtang North Local Government Area safer, cleaner, and better organized, Executive Chairman Hon. Pirfa Jingfa Tyem has flagged off a series of development projects at Zamko Market, located along the Mban–Zamko road.
The ongoing works include the construction of a solar-powered borehole, a perimeter fencing project, and the completion of the market’s administrative block, all aimed at boosting commerce, strengthening security, and enhancing revenue collection within the busy trading center.
Borehole Brings Relief to Traders and Cattle Dealers
At the project site, drilling machines hummed as work advanced on the new solar-powered borehole, designed to serve traders, butchers, and livestock dealers at both the main market and the adjoining Zongo Cattle Market.
The facility will provide clean water for business activities and livestock maintenance, a critical need for a market expected to host over 1,000 cattle and other livestock weekly. Traders say the water project will improve hygiene, reduce costs, and make trading easier.
Officials of the Cattle Association of Zamko Market expressed heartfelt gratitude to the council chairman for the intervention, noting that clean and steady water has been a long-standing demand of market users.
“We are deeply grateful to Hon. Pirfa Tyem for not only bringing this solar borehole but also ensuring the market is fenced and better managed,” one of the association leaders said. “This will improve livestock trade and strengthen revenue generation for the council.”
Fencing for Security and Proper Revenue Control
Beyond the borehole, the perimeter fencing project is another major step toward better organization and safety in the marketplace. The fence will secure traders’ goods and create controlled entry and exit points to be manned by security and revenue officers.
According to market officials, this will help curb unauthorized movements, check theft, and streamline revenue collection from livestock and goods entering or leaving the premises — improving accountability and market discipline.
Administrative Block and Upcoming Facilities
Hon. Pirfa Tyem also revealed that the administrative block of the market, which is already at 35 percent completion, will soon be concluded to house market management offices and serve as a coordination center for traders and revenue staff.
He further disclosed plans to construct a police station within the market to ensure round-the-clock security, as well as modern toilet facilities to promote hygiene and demarcation of the cattle market area for better livestock management.
“Our focus is to make Zamko Market a model of orderliness, hygiene, and transparency — a market where traders can thrive and revenue can be properly accounted for,” the chairman said.
Economic and Social Impact
The Zamko Market upgrade is part of Hon. Tyem’s broader initiative to modernize key commercial areas in Langtang North, encourage local enterprise, and ensure traders operate in a safe, well-serviced environment.
When completed, the borehole, fencing, and administrative structures are expected to ease business operations, attract more livestock traders, and strengthen the local government’s internally generated revenue.
