Abdul Maikaba, the head coach of the Kano Pillars, has said that his team is not yet ready for competitive play.
In their debut match of the 2023–24 Nigeria Premier Football League season, the four-time champions were defeated 1-0 by Sunshine Stars.
With only five days to the start of the season, according to Maikaba, some of his players were not healthy enough to participate in the game.
He informed the club’s media that they had only had four to five days’ notice before the league began this time.
Some of the players weren’t physically prepared to compete in this kind of grade “A” match, he said.
In their second game on Sunday, Kano Pillars will play host to Katsina United, their bitter rivals.
The Sani Abacha Stadium will host the match.
