As anticipation builds across Plateau State, the organizers of the Plateau Man of the Year Awards (PMYA) have announced the commencement of preparations for the 11th edition of the prestigious annual event themed “The Convergence of Excellence: Building Legacies, Inspiring Generations.”
Established in 2014, the Plateau Man of the Year Awards has grown into the state’s most credible platform for celebrating excellence, leadership, and service. What began as a modest initiative has evolved into a movement that recognizes and uplifts individuals whose courage, creativity, and integrity have continued to shape Plateau and inspire its people.
According to the Team Lead of PMYA and Executive Director of COA Media, Amb. Cletus Akhimien, the award scheme has, over the past eleven years, honored more than 450 outstanding trailblazers, including reformers, entrepreneurs, artists, and change-makers. These individuals, he noted, have contributed immensely to innovation, institutional growth, and community development across the state.
“Through our programmes and social impact projects, we have been touching thousands of lives across Plateau and beyond,” Akhimien said, highlighting PMYA’s growing influence beyond award recognition to tangible community impact.
This year’s edition, he explained, holds special significance as it coincides with Plateau State’s Golden Jubilee celebration (50 years). The 11th PMYA, themed “The Convergence of Excellence,” is designed not only to celebrate achievers but also to reflect on the state’s enduring spirit of resilience, unity, and progress.
“This edition is both a reflection and a renewal: a tribute to the past, a celebration of the present, and a promise for the future,” Akhimien stated, describing the event as a convergence of leaders, innovators, and citizens united by a shared vision for a greater Plateau.
He emphasized that PMYA’s mission goes beyond recognition, serving as a platform for mentorship, youth empowerment, and storytelling that projects Plateau’s greatness to the world. “Leadership is not about power but about service; not about fame, but about legacy,” he added.
The PMYA Team Lead also expressed gratitude to partners, sponsors, and supporters for their continuous belief in the vision of celebrating and promoting excellence on the Plateau. “Together, we continue to celebrate excellence, inspire leadership, and build a legacy that endures,” he concluded.
As the countdown to the grand event begins, residents and stakeholders are eager to find out who will emerge as the 11th Plateau Man of the Year — an honor that continues to symbolize service, innovation, and lasting impact.
