Vivian Bwehmana Matur has publicly apologized to Rt. Hon. Dewan Kudangbena Gabriel, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, following defamatory remarks she made about him on social media. In her statement, Matur retracted the allegations and extended her heartfelt apology, acknowledging that her claims were baseless.
In a move aimed at fostering peace, Matur stated, “I want to extend my apology to Mr. Dewan on my comment in respect of defaming his character as to using public/government funds on prostitutes, and also the criminal intimidation I made.” She admitted that her allegations, including the claim that the Speaker was “using his own hands to dig his grave and his children,” were made without any factual basis.
Matur clarified that she did not know Speaker Dewan Gabriel personally, describing her knowledge of him as only that of a “citizen of Plateau State and the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.” She expressed deep regret over the incident and joined her family, community, and stakeholders in promoting peace and resolution.
In her apology, Matur also addressed those who had attacked her and her family due to the controversy. “To those who attack me and my family, I want to tell you all that I hold no grudges against anyone,” she said, advising the public to refrain from further comments on the matter.
Importantly, she emphasized that her apology was genuine and not influenced by external pressure. “I am writing this from my heart and not under any duress, force, or promise of any kind,” Matur assured, concluding with a heartfelt plea for forgiveness. “I hope and pray that Mr. Dewan finds a place in his heart to forgive me.”
The apology marks an end to the public dispute, as Matur’s acknowledgment of her wrongs paves the way for reconciliation. With peace at the forefront, she expressed her hopes for the continued success of Plateau State.
