The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 18 new full-time undergraduate programmes for the University of Jos.
The new courses will start in the 2025/2026 academic session.

The approval followed a resource verification visit by the NUC.
During the visit, the Commission checked the university’s staff, facilities, and other resources.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Tanko Ishaya received the official approval letter.
It was signed by the NUC Director of Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei.

The new courses cover technology, arts, education, health, and social sciences.
They include B.Sc. Data Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Information Systems, and Information Technology.

Other programmes are B.A. Philosophy, Music Education, Fine Arts and Applied Arts Education, Primary Education, Agricultural Science Education, and Business Education.
Health-related courses approved are B.RAD. Radiography and D.PT. Physiotherapy.

The NUC also approved B.Sc. Entrepreneurship, Public Administration, Forensic Science, Pharmacology, and Social Work.

The Commission said the programmes are for full-time undergraduate study only.
Postgraduate versions will require new approval.

It urged the university to maintain enough staff and facilities for the courses.
It also advised that the approved names must be used.

The University of Jos said the approval is a big step forward.
It will create more learning opportunities and give students skills to meet today’s challenges.
