An exciting initiative is taking root in Plateau State, spearheaded by Samuel David Sambo, a skilled artisan from Jos East Local Government Area. The project, which aims to transform used car tyres into valuable products, is a unique combination of environmental sustainability and economic empowerment.
Sambo’s goal is to address the environmental hazards posed by tyre burning and, at the same time, create new livelihood opportunities for the state’s youth and communities.
The burning of used tyres in Plateau State has long been a cause of concern, releasing toxic fumes that threaten the health of residents. Recognizing this issue, Sambo’s project offers a sustainable alternative, recycling old tyres into practical and decorative items such as executive round sofas, chairs, flower pots, and even small gardens. His work has gained attention, with features on NTA Jos and multiple training sessions conducted to equip youths with the necessary skills.
However, despite these efforts, the initiative faces challenges, particularly in scaling up. Sambo is reaching out to potential partners, sponsors, and donors to support the project’s expansion. With additional funding, the project aims to establish a dedicated training center where young people can learn the craft of transforming tyres, as well as provide startup kits to help small-scale businesses flourish across Plateau State.
The project also has a strong environmental focus. Sambo plans to conduct awareness campaigns to educate the public on the dangers of tyre burning and promote the benefits of recycling. By involving local communities and empowering youths, the initiative has the potential to make a lasting impact on both the environment and the economy.
To further its goals, the project is calling on individuals and organizations to contribute through partnerships, sponsorships, or direct donations. Supporters will receive benefits such as brand visibility, promotion through social media, and the opportunity to engage in corporate social responsibility initiatives.
The project is open to collaborations, with every contribution going directly towards training, resources, and promoting environmental sustainability in Plateau State.
