The provost federal college of medical laboratory Science and technology (FCMLST) Prof. Sunday obong Etukudoh has commended the numerous health reforms embarked upon by President Bola Tinubu administration since assumption of office, in just about 2 years now he has created positive results in the Federal College of Medical Laboratory Science Technology (FCMLST) Jos, his reforms has really give a boost to the health sector.

The provost Prof. Sunday Etukudoh made this known at the College, after taking a team of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) on inspection tour of facilities at the College for resource verification of the College preparatory for the establishment of new programs in the institution, it could be recalled that Prof. Etukudoh’s effort has upgraded the institution from federal school of medical laboratory Science and technology to federal college of medical laboratory Science and technology which is a great achievement.

During an interview with Professor Etukudoh after the inspection of the college facilities he said that President Bola Tinubu has committed his administration to concrete actions and policies that would drive positive change in healthcare delivery in the country and the College was leveraging on this produce the best laboratory scientists for our hospitals and other hospitals across the globe, he noted that medical laboratory Scientist who are care givers have a critical role to play when it comes to adequate diagnosis, he said the
renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu in the health sector has been successful through the appointment of scholarly Nigerians with the heart and thought of Nigerians in mind at helm of affairs.

“When you look at the background of Professor Mohamed Ali Pate, Dr. Tunji Alausa, and even the Permanent Secretary, Kacholom Shanti Daju, you’ll see that the Ministry of Health is blessed due to the innovative and excellent choice of personnel, and that has given the health sector major boost because when you have the right persons you get the right results and we are internally grateful to Mr president for that.

As journalists, you must have seen a lot of media attention, even online, where my name has been mentioned in relation to the development of the Medical Laboratory Technology Technician program. As a government appointee, with the heart and interest of Nigeria and Nigerians in mind, you don’t follow associations—you do what will benefit Nigeria, so that at the end of it all, the new hope for Nigerians will be realized. That is what we are doing here.

I am very, very pleased with the work of the Executive Secretary in overseeing the resource verification and institutional accreditation of this program. It’s not only the Medical Laboratory Technician program that is being considered for accreditation; we also have the National Diploma (ND) in Public Health, Epidemiological Studies and Disease Control, and Environmental Health.

All of these programs will produce positive outcomes that will assist the local government sector through the National Primary Health Development Agency, which is responsible for managing primary health centers. This training is very timely, especially when considering point-of-care training, where this category of staff is essential. We are helping to drive the government’s policy in this critical area of need.

We recently attended the bilateral session, where the Permanent Secretary addressed us alongside representatives from the Budget Office. It was emphasized that the Ministry is eager to ensure that all facilities and infrastructures, including buildings awarded since 1983, are completed. This will provide sufficient facilities for our programs and ensure we meet the standards of the National Board for Technical Education. Ultimately, this will allow us to export knowledge to other parts of the world, reducing the need for migration. Singapore relies on knowledge exportation, and Nigeria can also benefit from this model.

We at the federal college have achieved a lot from the renew hope agenda “So, what we are able to achieve here transcends from the top. We are encouraged, motivated, and given the tools to succeed. That is why we are driving this particular cadre to provide the human resource for health for Nigerians”. And with this the whole of Africa will benefit and that will reduce the

Speaking earlier, Dr.Kubra Jauro, Deputy Director, specialized Institutions Division NBTE and Team Lead a team to the Federal College for resource inspection said they have gone round the College and were satisfied with facilities in the College. “We have toured the facilities, especially the medical lab facilities, which exceed our minimum requirements for establishing the programs, we are satisfied with what we have seen on ground so far as the college has adequate facilities for the programs”.

FCMLST Jos which has taken a pioneering status as the first institution to offer a National Diploma in Medical Laboratory is pursuing five accreditations—in Epidemiology and Disease Control, Public Health Technology, Environmental Health Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Institutional Administration
