President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended the tenure of the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap, by 18 months, allowing her to remain in office until June 30, 2028.
The extension followed a recommendation by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to address succession gaps and give the relevant board sufficient time to appoint a successor.
Nandap, appointed in March 2024, has overseen efforts to modernise immigration operations, strengthen border management and improve national security.
A recent development under her leadership is the training of 87 officers on the Border Control and Immigration Management System (BCIMS) to enhance border surveillance, intelligence-led operations and the detection of security threats.
The specialised training, which ended at the NIS Headquarters in Abuja, was designed to equip officers with the technical skills required to combat cross-border crimes and improve border control.
The BCIMS integrates more than 15 million migration records from over 14 data sources, supporting real-time identity verification and intelligence-led screening at border points.
Nandap has urged officers to use the technology responsibly, stressing the importance of accuracy, accountability and the protection of sensitive security information.
The tenure extension was announced on Monday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, who said the President had charged both service chiefs to consolidate reforms achieved under their leadership.
