The Honorable Member Representing Jos South Jos East Federal Constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology, Federal House of Representatives Abuja, Rep. Dachung Musa Bagos, has said newly established Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy has the potential to increase the country’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
He highlighted that coastal countries worldwide and Nigerian states have benefitted economically from the blue economy.
Rep. Bagos suggested that a legislative framework should be developed by the government, in collaboration with the National Assembly, to open up more coastal areas and grant local government areas and states control over them.
He also proposed dredging the River Benue to create a new coastal area.
Rep. Bagos urged the government to partner with the National Assembly to capitalize on existing coastal areas in Nigeria, emphasizing the need for a collaborative approach.
