The Students Union Government (SUG) of the University of Jos has issued a strong warning to faculty members against imposing unauthorized charges on students for journals, tests, and other academic materials. The SUG emphasized that students should not be compelled to make payments beyond the fees officially approved by the university management.

In a public notice signed by the SUG President, Jane Kangyang Pwajok, and the Secretary General, Dauda Jonathan Shupkuk, the Union expressed concern over reports that some faculties were charging students for materials that are meant to be free or optional. “Let it be made absolutely clear—no student should be compelled to make any payment beyond what the University has officially approved,” the notice read.

The SUG highlighted that any charges for journals, tests, or additional materials that are not explicitly permitted by the university should be entirely optional. “No faculty or department has the right to enforce such payments as a condition for academic participation,” Jane Kangyang Pwajok stressed.

Students who have been coerced into paying such unauthorized charges are encouraged to report the matter immediately. According to the SUG President, the Union is prepared to escalate these concerns to the school management for immediate action. “We will escalate these concerns to the school management for swift action,” she said.

The SUG reiterated its commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in all financial dealings affecting students. The Union urged all students to remain vigilant and report any inappropriate demands placed upon them by faculty or other departments.

This move by the SUG underscores its dedication to protecting the welfare of students and promoting transparency in the University of Jos.
