Str8up Hip-hop, Nigeria’s longest-running hip-hop platform held its first throwdown for the year, and it celebrated Naija hihop queens. Tagged Ladies First 2.0, it featured electrifying performances by headliners MZ Kiss and DJ Nana, with a host of other support acts.
As usual, Pop Haus Lekki, the venue of the throwdown came alive as hip-hop lovers kept a date for the periodic celebration of authentic Hip-hop culture, in the form of B-boy dance battles, rap cyphers, and spoken word.
Guest performances for the night included rappers Brainee, Black Blaze, Ola Jayce, Sy Rap and Vickzy. Spoken word artists Faith Moyosore and Davespeare, also wowed the audience with their presentations. The winning team for the B-boy battle also carted away the N50,000 prize money.
Keeping true to the theme of this month’s edition, Ladies First, the audience was taken through a musical journey of some of the most talented female MCs to have graced the game, topped off with the video of Tha Suspect’s I no Send You (Femcee Remix), featuring Sasha P, Muna, Eva, Blaise, Zee and Mo Cheddah.
The highlight of the tribute to females in Hip-hop was the presentation of the honorary Respeck Tha Architect plaque, by rapper/actor, Ill Bliss, to one of the pioneer Femcees of Nigerian Hip-hop, Shola Idowu PKA Weird MC, represented by her younger sister, Titi.
Guests at the event included Illbliss, Elajoe, HI Idibia, Nino Vid, Frankie Ogbole, VJ Gweena, Cassandra, and Ini Udofa.
