The Chairman, of the Senate Committee on Labour, Employment, and Productivity, Senator Diket Plang, has expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident at Saint Academy in Jos, Plateau State, where two-story buildings collapsed, killing some students and teachers.

Senator Plang, in a statement, also commiserated with the parents of students who lost their lives and those injured.

Senator Plang said the unfortunate incident that occurred in the early hours of Friday was devastating and called on those saddled with the responsibility of the rescue operations to be more diligent toward ensuring that those trapped in the rumble are rescued alive.

“I want to commiserate with the families of those who lost their lives in the collapsed building. I am also appealing to the residents to allow rescuers to carry out their operations without any hindrance.

“It touches one to lose young ones like these students in such a tragic incident, particularly at a tender age. May the Lord grant everyone affected by this sad incident the fortitude and succor.”

The Senator representing Plateau Senatorial District of Plateau State advised people to shun indiscriminate building of houses without authorized permission from appropriate agencies and ministries.

“It is time for decisive actions to be taken against all found culpable in breach of building standards that end up in disasters,” he added.
