The former senate minority leader, Senator Dr. Simon Mwadkwon, who represented Plateau North, has criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for rejecting the recent local government elections in Plateau State, describing their stance as unfounded. He lauded Governor Caleb Mutfwang and the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) for conducting what he called a transparent, free, and fair election.
In a media briefing in Jos, the state capital, Mwadkwon accused the APC of attempting to create unnecessary tension following their electoral defeat. Responding to APC Chairman Rufus Bature’s allegations that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rigged the elections, Mwadkwon argued that opposition parties had won several councillorship seats, demonstrating the fairness of the process.
“The elections were free and fair, and the people have chosen their leaders. This is a victory for the entire Plateau State,” Mwadkwon stated, while urging the APC to accept defeat honorably. He emphasized that the outcome was a win for the people, especially in the Northern Zone, and credited Governor Mutfwang for ensuring a smooth electoral process.
Mwadkwom also noted that the courts remain an integral part of the electoral process, acknowledging the APC’s right to seek legal redress but expressing confidence in the fairness of the judiciary. “No court will unjustly overturn the people’s mandate,” he added, commending Governor Mutfwang’s dedication to democracy and transparency.
