Chairman of the National Assembly Joint Committee on Electoral Matters, Senator Simon Bako Lalong, has reaffirmed the commitment of the 10th National Assembly to reforming the Electoral Act for more credible and transparent elections in Nigeria.

Presiding over a joint committee session on Thursday, 27th June 2025, Lalong assured Nigerians that all key issues affecting the integrity of elections will be addressed during the ongoing review process.

The Senator, who also chairs the Senate Committee on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said the committee will consider public concerns, including calls for improved voter registration, electronic transmission of results, and INEC’s operational autonomy.

He stressed the importance of wide consultations, adding that inputs from civil society, election observers, and the public would shape the final recommendations of the committee.

Lalong noted that the reform will build a more trusted electoral system and reduce post-election disputes, which have often undermined Nigeria’s democracy.

He encouraged citizens to actively participate in the process, assuring that the National Assembly will prioritize transparency, inclusiveness, and national interest in amending the Electoral Act.
