Former Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District, Senator Istifanus Dung Gyang, has expressed profound appreciation to members of his “Believe Campaign Team” for their unwavering support and sacrifices during the recently inconclusive All Progressives Congress senatorial primary election in Plateau North.
Gyang, who contested for the APC ticket to represent Plateau North in the 2027 Senate race, described his campaign team as a formidable force that demonstrated commitment, loyalty, and resilience throughout the exercise.
While addressing the Believe Campaign Team in a Voice of thanksgiving at his Jos Residence, Sen. Gyang said he remained grateful to God and to every supporter who believed in his vision of service and good governance.
“Today is a day of gratitude and thanksgiving. Gratitude to God for His goodness and for connecting me with every one of you individually and all of you collectively”.
According to him, the dedication displayed by campaign members from strategic planning meetings to grassroots mobilisation across communities was a testament to their belief in a shared vision for Plateau North.
“I want to express my deepest appreciation to each of you for the work, sacrifice and belief you poured into our campaign. You knocked on doors, made calls, defended our message and stood firm when it would have been easier to walk away. That kind of loyalty and commitment cannot be manufactured, and I do not take it for granted”.
The former senator, however, lamented what he described as the abrupt disruption of the APC senatorial primary election in Plateau North, alleging that the exercise failed to reflect the wishes of party members and supporters across the district.
He claimed that party faithful had turned out in large numbers across the 73 electoral wards in anticipation of the primary election, only for the process to be stalled without voting taking place.
Gyang further alleged that a result was later announced despite the absence of a properly conducted exercise, a development he said had generated widespread concern among party members and the public.
According to him, his camp had formally lodged a complaint before the National Assembly Primary Election Appeal Committee in line with the provisions of the APC Constitution and guidelines governing the conduct of party primaries.
“We have taken the appropriate steps provided by the party by submitting our complaints to the National Assembly Primary Election Appeal Committee. As we await justice from the National Working Committee of the APC, we are hopeful that they will not allow this apparent travesty and trampling of democratic principles to stand,” he said.
Despite the controversy surrounding the primary, Gyang urged his supporters not to lose faith, insisting that the struggle was not merely about securing a political office but about advancing a politics anchored on competence, fairness and service to the people.
“The contest was never just about a seat. It was about proving that our people deserve a politics driven by competence, fairness and service. You proved that it is possible, and you have laid the groundwork for our journey of destiny”.
The former lawmaker reiterated his gratitude to members of the Believe Campaign Team, describing their efforts as one of the most robust political movements in the history of Plateau North.
He expressed optimism that, with divine guidance and the support of the people, their aspiration to represent Plateau North in the Senate would ultimately be realised.
“Thank you for standing with me, for believing in the cause, and for representing our team with honour. By the grace of God, our quest to serve the good people of Plateau North will be fulfilled,” Gyang said.
