Hon. Titus Kim Danja, a chairmanship aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election for Riyom Local Government Council, has raised serious allegations of electoral irregularities. In a statement released on August 16, 2024, Danja recounted his experience, describing the election process as a “sham.”
According to Danja, he was not properly informed of the election venue by party officials. “All I received was a vague text from the party chairman saying elections would soon commence,” he stated. Upon reaching the venue, he was shocked to discover that voting was already underway, with delegates casting their votes. “I was completely blindsided,” he said. “My agent wasn’t there, and I wasn’t there. This injustice should be addressed and the right thing should be done.”
Danja also accused the Liaison Officer to the Governor, Hon. Timothy Dantong of being involved in suspicious activities at the polling site. “I witnessed the Liaison Officer collecting what appeared to be ballot papers and signing on them,” he alleged. “This blatant disregard for transparency is unacceptable.”
Further complicating matters, Danja claimed that when he raised concerns with a former Senate Minority leader, Sen. Dr. Simon Mwadkwon, he was met with indifference. “He boldly and shamelessly told me, ‘I should go to court’ if I’m not satisfied,” Danja said, describing the response as a clear indication of a premeditated plan to impose an unpopular candidate.
Danja has called on the leadership of the PDP to intervene immediately. “I am urging the leaders of our great party to address this injustice without delay. Not acting to correct this very obvious suppression may degenerate and become catastrophic,” he warned.
The situation in Riyom LGC has raised concerns among party members and observers alike, with many questioning the integrity of the electoral process. As the controversy unfolds, all eyes are on the PDP leadership to see how they will respond to these serious allegations.
