The Executive Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area, Hon. Sati Bature Shuwa, has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of two young men, Emmanuel Bature (37) and Dalyop Dangyang, from Rachi Community in Bachi District. The victims were laid to rest on November 8, 2025, after another senseless assault that left the community in mourning.

Speaking during the mass burial, Hon. Shuwa described Riyom as a land of memories, noting that the people have endured violent attacks for over two decades. He lamented that despite Nigeria being governed by a constitution with core values, many citizens continue to act contrary to what is right, leading to persistent insecurity and injustice in the country.
He emphasized that while there had been cases of compromise in the past, the present security situation in Riyom has shown some improvement. The Chairman commended security agencies for their renewed efforts and called for continuous collaboration among stakeholders, including traditional rulers and community leaders, to end the recurring violence.
Hon. Shuwa stressed the importance of unity and community engagement in addressing insecurity, urging all relevant parties to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with security operatives. According to him, “We must improve stakeholder involvement with security, traditional rulers, and community leaders so that we can bring this ugly situation to an end.”
Addressing residents of Rachi and other communities, the Chairman urged them to remain law-abiding and exercise caution in their movements, especially at night. He advised that people should return to their homes early and avoid unnecessary movements to ensure their safety and prevent further tragedies.
Hon. Sati Bature Shuwa concluded by calling on the people of Riyom and Nigerians at large to uphold peace and righteousness in their daily lives. He expressed hope that with collective effort, prayers, and discipline, the country would overcome its current challenges and restore lasting peace to affected communities.

Also speaking during the mass burial, Rt. Hon. Timothy Dantong, Liaison Officer of Riyom Local Government Area and former Deputy Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, expressed deep sadness over the continuous loss of innocent lives in the area. He described the burial as a painful reminder of the insecurity that has plagued Riyom for years, urging both government and security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further bloodshed.
Dantong appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts toward arresting those behind the attacks, noting that many of the perpetrators are known to the community. He lamented that despite submitting their names to the authorities, little or no action has been taken, leaving residents in fear and despair.
He further urged security operatives to use available technology and intelligence to trace the killers through victims’ stolen phones and other evidence. According to him, penetrating identified hideouts and ensuring justice for the victims would help end the persistent violence and restore peace to Riyom and its neighbouring communities.

The District Head of Bachi, Da Gyang Dalyop Gwom, described the killings as a painful and unfortunate tragedy that has left the community in deep sorrow. He said the attacks were unprovoked, with victims often targeted in their homes, making life in the area unsafe and unpredictable.
He called for greater vigilance among residents and appealed to security agencies to strengthen their presence in Bachi. The traditional ruler noted that the community remains exposed to danger and needs urgent protection to prevent more loss of lives.
