The Executive Chairman of Riyom Local Government Area, Hon. Sati Bature Shuwa, has distributed more than 40 motorcycles to conventional and non-conventional security operatives across the 17 wards of the council in a bid to strengthen security operations and improve rapid response to threats.
The initiative is part of the council’s efforts to address the persistent security challenges that have affected Riyom communities for over two decades, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of property, and displacement of residents.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony at the Riyom Local Government Secretariat, Hon. Shuwa reiterated that the protection of lives and property remains the foremost responsibility of his administration. He noted that the procurement of the motorcycles was a deliberate intervention aimed at enhancing the mobility and operational capacity of security personnel, particularly in hard-to-reach rural communities.
According to the Chairman, improved mobility will enable security operatives to respond more swiftly to security incidents, conduct regular patrols, and strengthen surveillance in vulnerable areas across the local government.
He stressed that the intervention demonstrates his administration’s commitment to practical solutions that will support ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the area.
Hon. Shuwa charged the beneficiaries to use the motorcycles strictly for official duties and cautioned against converting them to personal use. He expressed confidence that the motorcycles would significantly improve security operations and contribute to safeguarding communities across Riyom.
The Chairman further assured residents that his administration would continue to collaborate with security agencies and other stakeholders to tackle insecurity and create a safer environment for citizens.
The distribution ceremony attracted stakeholders from across the local government, who commended the initiative and described it as a timely intervention toward strengthening community security and enhancing the effectiveness of security personnel operating in the area.
