The Member representing Bassa/Jos North Federal Constituency, Hon. (Amb.) Daniel Asama Ago, has officially defected from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Announcing his decision on Wednesday, Asama described the move as a strategic and progressive step aimed at enhancing service delivery and advancing the development goals of his constituency.

In a statement issued by his Media Office through Comr. Dave Jonathan Boldmind, Press Secretary to the lawmaker, Asama said his defection followed wide consultations with political leaders, community elders, and stakeholders across party lines.

He explained that the decision was not about personal ambition but about aligning with a political platform that offers broader opportunities to connect Bassa and Jos North to national development programs.

“My political ideology has always been people-centered, focused on service, inclusiveness, and sustainable development. After due consultation and reflection, I believe joining the APC provides a broader channel to deliver on the promises I made to my people and to further strengthen Plateau’s voice at the national level,” Hon. (Amb.) Daniel Asama Ago stated.

The lawmaker reaffirmed his commitment to peace building, youth empowerment, education, and social inclusion, noting that his decision was guided by the collective interest of his constituents.

Hon. Asama, who currently serves as Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Culture and Tourism, said he would continue using his position to attract projects and initiatives that promote tourism, economic growth, and unity in Plateau State.

His media office added that ongoing consultations are being held with supporters and political structures to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of his people-oriented programs.

“For Hon. Asama, politics remains about people, not party lines. His vision is clear — to serve, to unite, and to deliver,”
the statement concluded.
