Member Representing Barkin Ladi, Riyom Federal Constituency of Plateau State in the House of Representatives Abuja, Hon. Dalyop Fom has identified religious tolerance as crucial element in achieving development and peaceful coexistence in Plateau State and Nigeria at large.
According to the Lawmaker religious tolerance is the bedrock of development in every society, while highlighting the need for traditional, religious, and ethnic group leaders to interact and exchange ideas to bring back peace.
Hon. Fom stated this during a feast he organized with religious and traditional leaders, as well as heads of security agencies from Riyom and Barkin Ladi to chat the way forward for Peaceful co-existence in the Federal Constituency.
While speaking during the event held at Gwol Hotel Barkin Ladi, the Lawmaker He emphasized the need for stakeholders to work together to achieve unity and harmony in their domain.
He added that aims of the meeting with both Muslims and Christians leader during end of fasting period was to foster unity and tolerance among the community, which has been affected by insecurity.
He expressed sadness over the skirmishes experienced in the past in his constituency and appealed to stakeholders to collaborate with security agencies to end the security challenges facing the area.
Hon. Fom said he believe that the Peace Meeting during the Muslim celebration would promote religious tolerance, He reminisced about his childhood, where Christians and Muslims would share food and engage in activities together, and expressed his desire to revive that spirit of unity.
“We should embrace one another, Nigerians need to have love for one another and understand that this country is ours, it’s also importance to support our leaders, keep praying for them, and contributing positively to the country’s growth.
The Reps Member who had last year defected from the Labour Party to the All Progressive Congress due to citing crisis on the party, urged his Constituents to believe in the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the President has Nigerians at heart and he is doing his best to ensure development to all part of the country.
“As Nigeria continues to face various challenges, which will soon be overcome, let us embrace the power of love, compassion, and collective effort in building a better future for all.
Stakeholders, including both Muslims and Christians clerics, traditional leaders and head Security agencies praised the initiative, stating that it was timely and necessary.
They all emphasized the importance of religious tolerance in achieving peaceful coexistence and development in the state.
