The Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB) has dismissed reports alleging it sacked over 700 staff as false and misleading.

In a rejoinder signed by the board, PSUBEB described the claims as “rumors” intended to paint its leadership in bad light and discredit the efforts of Governor Caleb Mutfwang.

“Our attention has been drawn to a misleading and sensational report claiming that the Executive Chairman of the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB), Builder Sunday S. Amuna, is orchestrating the mass dismissal of over 700 Local Education Authority (LEA) staff employed by the previous administration.”

The board stated that the report lacked evidence and was filled with “half-truths and unnamed sources.”

“This claim, filled with half-truths and unnamed sources, appears to be a deliberate attempt to incite public outrage, destabilize the educational system, and cast aspersions on the reform-oriented leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang.”

It noted that there has been no directive issued for mass dismissal of staff as claimed in the report.

“The current staff review exercise is part of a routine audit to ensure that all employments were duly processed and legitimate. There has been no directive issued for the mass sacking of staff, as falsely claimed in the said report.”

According to the board, the ongoing process is a staff validation aimed at cleaning up the payroll system and ensuring only legitimate workers are paid.

“What is ongoing is a careful validation of employment records—a process meant to clean up the payroll by identifying ghost workers, duplicated entries, and appointments made without proper authorization.”

PSUBEB emphasized that the audit is not politically motivated and is necessary to reposition the education sector.

“It is equally important to emphasize that this process is not politically motivated. Governor Mutfwang’s administration has shown no interest in victimizing any individual or group.”

The board reassured genuine workers that their jobs are safe and their welfare remains a priority.

It also highlighted that a recent recruitment exercise was launched to bring in qualified professionals through a transparent process.

“This initiative, spearheaded by Builder Amuna, included the activation of an online application portal to ensure a merit-based selection that is free from nepotism or favoritism. The goal is to expand and enhance, not reduce, the education workforce.”

PSUBEB condemned individuals spreading misinformation, describing their actions as distractions from meaningful reforms.

The board finally on the public to disregard the false reports and continue supporting the ongoing reforms in the state’s basic education sector.
