The Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the National Orthopedic Hospital, Jos, Prof. Icha Inalegwu Onche, has emphasized the hospital’s recent strides under his leadership, particularly with ongoing renovations and the upgrade of facilities.
During a recent interview with journalists at the hospital, Prof. Onche highlighted the transformation the hospital has undergone since his appointment, aimed at improving patient care and operational efficiency.
Prof. Onche outlined the critical areas where significant improvements have been made, such as infrastructure development, medical equipment upgrades, and staff welfare. These include the renovation of wards, the construction of new facilities, and the procurement of state-of-the-art medical equipment. According to him, these developments will elevate the hospital’s status and enable it to provide top-notch medical services to both the local community and patients across Nigeria.
He also mentioned that the management team has placed a strong emphasis on training and capacity building for healthcare workers. This has been achieved through various workshops and specialized training programs designed to ensure that hospital staff are equipped with the latest skills and knowledge in orthopedics and trauma care. Prof. Onche noted that this will ultimately lead to better patient outcomes and enhanced service delivery.
In addition to infrastructural and staff development, the hospital’s financial management has been strengthened. Prof. Onche pointed out that they have established measures to ensure accountability and transparency in financial transactions, which has helped to stabilize the hospital’s finances. He commended the efforts of the hospital’s finance department for implementing cost-effective strategies that have contributed to overall efficiency.
One of the major achievements under his administration has been the establishment of partnerships with both national and international health institutions. These collaborations have allowed for knowledge exchange, as well as the acquisition of advanced technologies and medical practices that have improved the hospital’s capabilities in delivering specialized care.
Another key milestone mentioned by the CMD was the ongoing renovation of the hospital’s critical care units, including the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Unit. These upgrades, he said, are crucial to enhancing the hospital’s capacity to handle complex cases, particularly for patients requiring specialized orthopedic care. The renovations are expected to be completed soon, further boosting the hospital’s overall infrastructure.
Looking forward, Prof. Onche expressed optimism about the future of the National Orthopedic Hospital, Jos. He revealed plans for further expansions and continued modernization of the hospital’s services. He also called on the federal government and other stakeholders to continue supporting the hospital in its mission to become a center of excellence in orthopedic and trauma care.
