According to the Plateau State Police Command, 66 people have been detained by its personnel on suspicion of belonging to the notorious Sara Suka cult, which has been terrorising the state’s citizens.
Weapons were also found on the suspects.
The individuals were apprehended at various locations during the Sallah celebration, according to state Commissioner of Police Hassan Yabanet, who made this revelation while presenting the suspects at the command headquarters in Jos.
He proceeded by saying that the command was working around the clock to safeguard the inhabitants’ lives and property.
He said, “I wish to most graciously announce to you that the Eid-El-Fitr celebration in the state was peaceful and devoid of any rancour or attack on worshippers.
“Gentlemen of the press, I wish to inform you that our strategic deployment paid off, as a total of seventy-six (66) suspects were arrested at different locations within the state, and the following exhibits were recovered from them; Fourteen (14) machetes Eight (8) daggers Large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp Six (6) tricycles Four (4) motorcycles and a bottle containing illicit substances.
Meanwhile, all the suspects are undergoing interrogation and will be charged to court soonest”.
The commissioner went on, saying, “I wish to state emphatically that the Plateau State Police Command under my leadership will not tolerate any form of lawlessness.” He also revealed that two more suspects had been taken into custody in Wase LGA for armed robbery.
