The Plateau State Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Mineral Development has announced the postponement of the public presentation of the Plateau State Climate Change Policy and Action Plan 2026. The event was originally scheduled to hold on Tuesday, 31st March 2026, at Crispan Suites and Event Centre, Jos.
The decision follows a recent security incident in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, which prompted the Plateau State Government to impose a 48-hour curfew in the area to ensure the safety of residents.
In a statement, the Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Peter Kanang Gwom, explained that the postponement was necessary due to the curfew and the ongoing efforts to restore peace and normalcy in the affected communities.
Hon. Gwom assured the public that a new date for the presentation would be communicated in due course, emphasizing the State Government’s commitment to both public safety and the advancement of its climate action agenda.
The Commissioner expressed prayers for divine intervention, saying, “We pray to God to heal our land and comfort us all in this trying moment, Amen.”
The postponed presentation was set to highlight the State’s strategies for addressing climate change, enhancing environmental sustainability, and promoting resilience across communities in Plateau State.
Officials and stakeholders had been expected to gather at Crispan Suites to review the Climate Change Policy and Action Plan 2026, which outlines actionable steps for climate governance, mitigation, and adaptation.
Hon. Peter Kanang Gwom, who signed the announcement, reiterated the Ministry’s dedication to ensuring that climate policies and programs proceed safely and effectively once conditions allow.
