Taking decisive action to ensure quality education standards, the Plateau State Ministry for Higher Education has initiated a robust clampdown on unregistered institutions operating within the state. This proactive measure aims to uphold regulatory standards, safeguard student interests, and maintain the integrity of higher education offerings across Plateau State.

Dr. (Mrs) Kachollom Pyam Gang, Commissioner for Higher Education in Plateau State, made this known during a press briefing at the Joseph Gowalk Secretariat in Jos.

The commissioner said, “To operate within Plateau State, any higher institution must adhere to strict registration requirements set forth by the Ministry of Higher Education”

“This entails a comprehensive evaluation process where ministry officials assess the institution’s staff, facilities, registration status with the Corporate Affairs Commission, and approval from regulatory authorities overseeing their operations.”

“Only after confirming that all necessary structures and facilities are in place for adequate training will the ministry grant approval for the institution to operate.”

“By emphasizing the importance of accreditation and endorsing recognized higher education institutions, the initiative also aims to support the reputation of Plateau State’s academic landscape and foster a conducive learning environment for aspiring scholars.”

“We plan to launch a comprehensive enforcement action against unauthorised Higher institutions, collaborating with law enforcement agencies to ensure swift closure. We will also participate in an open disclosure procedure to protect students from questionable educational endeavors.” She added.

While challenges exist, including strikes and outdated regulations, Dr. Gang expressed confidence in the ministry’s ability to overcome obstacles and continue making strides in advancing higher education in Plateau State.

Dr. Pyam Gang explains the Ministry of Higher Education’s overall vision, which prioritizes the enhancement of both the quality and accessibility of higher education within Plateau State.

Central to this vision is the ministry’s role in supervising and coordinating the activities of both state-owned and private tertiary institutions, ensuring their alignment with government policies and global standards. By taking a proactive approach to oversight, the ministry aims to foster a conducive environment for academic excellence while upholding the integrity of educational offerings across the state.

The ministry is committed to enhancing the quality and transformation of higher education through continuous improvement and monitoring of tertiary institutions to align with global educational standards.

The ministry is dedicated to establishing a robust higher education sector that caters to student needs and contributes to the socio-economic development of Plateau State.
