Senator Simon Bako Lalong, representing Plateau South Senatorial District, has charged the newly inaugurated members of the Plateau State House of Assembly to prioritize the delivery of quality representation to their constituents.

The five remaining members of the House, who were sworn in following a Court of Appeal judgment, completed the legislative body after an eight-month delay caused by leadership disputes.

In a press statement issued by Dr. Makut Simon Macham, Senator Lalong’s Special Adviser on Media, the senator expressed his gratitude to the new lawmakers for their patience and unwavering commitment to the rule of law. He commended their restraint in not taking matters into their own hands despite the prolonged delay, which he attributed to the Speaker of the Assembly. Lalong emphasized that the members’ adherence to legal processes was crucial in maintaining peace and security in the state during the difficult period.

With the full complement of 24 Assembly members now in place, Senator Lalong urged the lawmakers to set aside the political intrigues of the past months and focus on legislative duties that will benefit the people of Plateau State. He called on them to demonstrate dedication to governance and effective lawmaking, now that the political season is over.

Lalong, who is also a former Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly and a two-term Governor, appreciated President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, among other key political figures, for their support in ensuring the democratic process was upheld. He criticized the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Gabriel Kudengbena Dewan, for what he described as undemocratic actions that delayed the inauguration of the last five members and posed a threat to democracy.

During a recent APC stakeholders meeting in Jos, Senator Lalong dismissed speculations that the swearing-in of the remaining members would lead to the impeachment of the Governor, labeling such rumors as baseless and malicious propaganda.

Senator Lalong concluded by wishing the lawmakers success in their new roles and urged them to embrace the spirit of governance, leaving behind political tensions for the betterment of Plateau State.
