In a bid to address energy challenges and foster economic development, the Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has inaugurated the Plateau Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Plateau Energy Commission, which are expected to spearhead the transformation of the Plateau State energy sector.

Governor Mutfwang said his government, with the support of partners like the European union, is working to improve the lives of the people.

Mutfwang said the state has a lot of youths who are graduates and skilled, adding that the government is focusing on the area of employment this year, and also on building the capacity of young women and widows as well as several disadvantaged groups in the society.

Speaking earlier was the head of section, Green and Digital Economy, EU Nigeria, Mrs. Inga Stephanomicz, who said the project is funded by the European Union and implementing partners and that their objective is to provide uninterrupted electricity for 365 days in the selected states across Nigeria.

She explained that the project would provide sustainable solar power to public health facilities in the five participating states to enhance reliable energy access and improve health services.

She disclosed that the inauguration was the first for any state in the northern part of Nigeria and appreciated the government for its support towards achieving the project.

The Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Board, Dr. Raymond Juryit, said the agency was pleased to have the Plateau State Solar project, saying the issue of immunization storage would be a thing of the past, because the project would provide a 24-hour energy which would help in the storage of vaccines.

Juryit appreciated the government for approving the project, and indicated that it would be of immense benefit to the people of the state.

The Secretary to the State Government (SGS), Arc. Samuel Jatau on behalf of the committee assured the governor of the committee’s willingness to ensure that power is made available to the rural people and especially in the health sector.

Highpoint of the event was the inauguration of the steering committee which comprises of the SGS, Arc. Samuel Jatau; Engr. Nasiru; Engr. Ponzing Gamde; State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Cletus Bako Shurkuk among others.
