Dr. Chirman Clement Selchum, The Rector of Plateau State Polytechnic Barkin Ladi, reveals that the institution has recovered academic stability under Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s administration, aims to establish a culture of academic excellence, prioritize research and innovation, and compete globally.
Dr. Selchum made this known to Journalists at the institute in Barkin Ladi, Plateau State.
Th Rector Applauded Governor Mutfwang for his unwavering commitment towards the academic stability of the institution. He said that “Workers are paid on time, infrastructures are created and enhanced, all encumbrances that have been causing problems for the institutions are resolved. An unstable education system can only arise when workers’ needs are not satisfied.,”
Dr. Selchum emphasized peaceful and stable system, reducing strikes due to dialogue and constructive engagement, despite agitation from part-timers and casual workers.
He highlighted the effective repair of water supply and electrical difficulties at Jos Campus and the permanent site in Heipang, as well as measures to resolve worker welfare concerns by giving equitable rights.
Dr Selchum adde that “we have tried to improve our facilities even within the shortest time of the year. We’ve embarked on some massive renovations to make our environment look more beautiful than this. And we believe that in the next two, three to four months Plateau State Polytechnic should look better than the way it is looking today we putting all these efforts into the glory of God and we believe that we will help in improving the standard of this polytechnic”.
“We achieved a significant achievement in accreditation exercise, allowing us to continue running courses that were due in 2018, 2019, despite NBT’s potential closure, granting us the license and liberty. Accreditation is a crucial academic requirement where the regulatory body re-evaluates programs, facilities, and progress. This helps institutions deliver better results and ensures they have adequate facilities, equipment, and a conducive learning environment, ensuring continued course offerings.”
“The program is well-structured to prepare graduates for industries and organizations, with a focus on engineering and environmental sciences programs. We invited them to assess and had a positive session, believing we are improving the status and standard of Platon State Polytechnic, a renowned institution with a tradition of excellence. The Nigerian polytechnic aims to address challenges and revamp its system to maintain excellence, having successfully passed the accreditation test, ensuring its success.”
“The vision is to improve standards, increase student enrollment, and eliminate the need for students to travel to neighboring polytechnics. The efforts aim to create a conducive and peaceful environment for education.”
He also revealed that “The blueprint aims to establish a culture of academic excellence, prioritize research and innovation, and compete globally. The institution will respond to national technological needs and environmental needs, reflecting the vision and reflecting the institution’s future actions.”
“The institution aims to foster student success in entrepreneurship and self-reliance through professional skills training, practical research, and collaboration with industries, organizations, and the community.”
“The blueprint for the Polytechnic also aims to create a system for students with skills, not just academics. This system will prepare students for a job market, as education is now more important than just passing exams. A student who graduated and went into entrepreneurship showcased this vision. Entrepreneurship and creativity are encouraged on the Plateau, preventing graduates from pursuing careers as P.As to LGA chairman P.As.”
Furthermore, Dr Selchum explained that The assessment focuses on collective access and the government’s excellent steps in addressing security changes and constructing massive infrastructures. People from various Plateau LGAs have expressed high acceptance of the government’s efforts, highlighting its sincerely carrying everyone along and fostering a happy state.
