The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has confirmed the arrest of two top suspects linked to the brutal killings in Bokkos and Bassa local government areas of Plateau State.

The attacks, which claimed over 100 lives, were described by the IGP as “senseless, utterly reprehensible, and a grave assault on national peace and security.”

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and promised justice for the victims. He said the arrested suspects are currently assisting with ongoing investigations.

“These killings are not only senseless but a grave assault on the peace and security of our nation. The Nigeria Police Force will not rest until those behind these acts are held accountable,” Egbetokun stated.

He added that preliminary investigations had led to the arrests, and efforts are ongoing to uncover the motives and apprehend other individuals involved.

To boost security in the state, the IGP directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, Kwazhi Dali Yakubu, to take over all police activities in Plateau. Yakubu has since led aerial surveillance in the affected areas and is engaging with local stakeholders to restore community confidence.

“We want the people of Plateau State to know that the Police are here for them. We are strengthening our presence and deploying more personnel to deter further violence,” the IGP assured.

Additionally, more officers and resources have been deployed to the state for rapid response, patrols, and intelligence gathering in high-risk areas.

“We are taking a proactive approach by boosting our rapid response capabilities and assessing the security terrain to deploy forces strategically,” Adejobi said.
