The Plateau State Government has warned political parties, candidates and campaign organisations against posting or mounting campaign posters and other political advertisements on public infrastructure across the metropolis.

The Board said the enforcement is part of measures to regulate outdoor advertising and ensure the orderly use of public spaces during the 2026–2027 election campaign period.

In a public notice signed by its General Manager, Arc. Hart Bankat, JMDB said political posters, banners and other campaign materials must not be pasted or displayed on public buildings, bridges, road infrastructure, utility poles, traffic structures, street furniture and trees.

The Board said the restriction is in line with Plateau State Executive Order No. 003 of 2024 on the control of buildings and vehicular traffic in the state.

JMDB also warned that no political poster, banner, billboard, signage, branded structure or other outdoor campaign advertising medium should be erected or displayed without prior approval from the appropriate regulatory authority.

According to the Board, all proposed advertising locations must be assessed and approved, with the required permits obtained before campaign materials are deployed.

It said only approved and allocated advertising locations, including designated locations within the metropolis, may be used for political campaign advertisements.

JMDB warned that violations would attract enforcement action and applicable sanctions under Executive Order No. 003 of 2024 and other relevant laws and regulations.

The Board specifically noted that the Executive Order provides a ₦500,000 penalty for posting posters on public infrastructure.

JMDB said strict compliance was necessary to preserve the aesthetics of the city, protect public infrastructure and ensure public safety.

It also said the regulations were intended to promote an orderly and equitable campaign environment for all political parties and candidates.

The Board urged the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON), registered political parties, candidates, advertising practitioners and campaign organisations to sensitise their members, agents and affiliates on the regulations.

JMDB said it would continue to monitor political outdoor advertising activities within its jurisdiction throughout the campaign period.

It warned that appropriate enforcement action would be taken against individuals and organisations found violating the regulations.
