The Plateau State Government has appealed for calm following the directive for the immediate closure of schools across the state due to emerging security concerns.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner of Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the government reaffirmed that the closure aligns with earlier directives released on November 21, 2025, by the Ministry of Education and the Plateau State Universal Basic Education Board (PSUBEB).

According to the statement, Government Junior Model Secondary Schools will close effective Saturday, 22 November 2025, while all Primary and Day Schools are to close effective Monday, 24 November 2025.

The Ministry of Education has also ordered that no academic or administrative activity should take place in any school until further notice.

The government explained that the decision was prompted by recent kidnapping incidents targeting students in neighboring states, making precautionary measures necessary.

While emphasizing that there is no cause for panic, the statement noted that the safety and wellbeing of students, teachers, and school personnel remain the government’s top priority.

The administration of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang called on parents, guardians, school administrators, and community leaders to remain calm, cooperate fully with the directives, and share only verified information.

The government further cautioned citizens against rumour mongering, warning that unverified reports could heighten unnecessary tension.

It assured residents that the situation is under control and urged them to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of efforts to maintain peace and safety across the state.
