In a bid to relieve environmental stress on water resources and promote stable socio-economic development, Honorable Hon. Noel Naanniap Nkup, the Commissioner for Water Resources and Energy has reiterate commitment of the ministry to stimulate and sustain investment in water and energy infrastructure across Plateau State.
Hon Nkup gave a thorough summary of the noteworthy achievements made by the Ministry since taking office in 2023 during a press briefing that was recently conducted at the Joseph Gomwalk Secretariat in Jos.
Nkup began by emphasizing the collaborative efforts of various agencies and development partners, including the Jos Water Services Corporation, Plateau Municipal Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (PLAMWASA), Plateau Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (PRUWASSA), and Plateau State Energy Corporation (PSEC), among others.
He reiterated the overarching objective of the Ministry to stimulate and sustain investment in water and energy infrastructure across the state, aligning with the policy trust of the Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang led Administration.
Highlighting key achievements, Nkup mentioned the Ministry’s active participation in national initiatives such as the Nigerian Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply and Hygiene Sanitation, along with policy initiatives and capacity-building endeavors.
He underscored the Ministry’s engagement in critical workshops, seminars, and stakeholder engagements, including participation in national workshops and committee meetings focused on water quality management, rural electrification, and sustainable water development.
Nkup also emphasized the successful signing of the Union Loan Agreement for AFD and collaboration with the Federal Project Implementing Unit for rural water supply and hygiene programs.
Moreover, he highlighted the Ministry’s contributions to national policy-making bodies on water and sanitation, such as the National Council on Water Resources and Sanitation, demonstrating its commitment to driving impactful change at the national level.
Additionally, Nkup outlined specific achievements of the Ministry’s agencies, including PROASA’s initiatives in rural water supply and sanitation, such as drilling boreholes and implementing sewage projects in communities across the state.
Furthermore, he detailed the efforts of Jos Water Services Corporation in revitalizing water distribution networks, conducting area metering, and collaborating with the World Bank on rehabilitation projects.
Nkup concluded by affirming the Ministry’s dedication to improving water and energy services for the people of Plateau State, noting ongoing projects in water treatment plant rehabilitation, pipe laying, and staff repositioning within the Plateau State Energy Corporation.
The Commissioner’s comprehensive briefing showcased the significant strides made by the Ministry in enhancing water and energy infrastructure and reiterated its commitment to delivering sustainable development for the citizens of Plateau State.
