The Plateau State Government has announced major changes in the management structure of its football clubs, Plateau United and Mighty Jets, as part of a move to make the clubs more commercially viable and professionally run.
According to a press release signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Arc. Samuel Jatau, the government aims to transform the clubs from government-dependent teams into competitive, revenue-generating organisations built on global best practices.
The government disclosed that the traditional position of General Manager will be replaced with more specialised roles such as Sporting Director, Commercial Director, and Operations Director.
“This is not about removing people. It is about rethinking how the Football Clubs operate in order to survive and thrive in today’s football economy,” the statement read.
The release also emphasised the state’s desire to improve the branding, innovation, and sustainability of its clubs, both on and off the pitch.
While appreciating the contributions of past and current club officials, the government promised to provide training opportunities and new roles for existing officers as part of the restructuring.
“The Government wishes to express its utmost gratitude to all those who have been part of the history of these great clubs,” the statement added.
It further reaffirmed Plateau State’s commitment to developing sports, especially football, and ensuring its clubs remain competitive locally and globally.
