The Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, has assured citizens of the state of his administration’s commitment to improving their lives through the introduction of people-centric projects, programs, and policies.

Governor Mutfwang made this declaration during the official unveiling of the Tin City Metro Buses at the Government House Chapel premises in Jos, the State Capital, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. He revealed that the launch of the City Transport initiative signifies a significant stride towards modernization and progress for the city. He emphasized that the day marks a milestone in his administration’s efforts to meet the aspirations of the state’s citizens.

At the core of the initiative, he explained, is his administration’s steadfast dedication to enhancing the daily lives of the populace, which has led to the acquisition of 15 state-of-the-art MAN-diesel buses. This move, he asserted, aims to alleviate the financial burden of intra-city travel and address the transportation challenges faced by commuters in the state.

“These buses are not mere vehicles; they are mobile hubs of innovation, equipped with the latest amenities such as Near Field Communication (NFC) and secure card payment systems. We are ushering in an era of digitized travel, aligning with the global trend towards cashless transactions for the convenience of our passengers.

“Safety and oversight are paramount in our transportation network. Consequently, we have integrated comprehensive video monitoring systems with audio/video feeds on each bus. This measure ensures the safety of our passengers and fosters a culture of accountability and transparency within our operations.

“The Tin City Metro Urban Transportation Initiative is more than just a transportation project; it serves as a catalyst for community development. It is expected to create between 500 to 1000 job opportunities, driving economic growth and fostering development across the state. This initiative aims to propel our city into a future of prosperity and advancement.

“I want to assure the people of Plateau State of our administration’s unwavering commitment to exemplary leadership. Guided by principles of integrity, character, the fear of God, and a deep-seated love for our state, we will continue to introduce initiatives that alleviate economic burdens and elevate your quality of life for the greater good.

“Our government remains steadfast in its adherence to due process, accountability, transparency, equity, and the rule of law. I urge all traders and citizens to collaborate with our officials who are dedicated to maintaining a clean and healthy environment for all. Rest assured, every decision made by this government is made with your best interests at heart,” he affirmed.

Earlier, the Transport Commissioner, Hon. Gyang Davou Jatau, and the General Manager of Plateau Express Services Limited, Hon. Samuel Gwott, reassured citizens that the Transport Sector is undergoing result-oriented transformation that will directly impact the citizens. They also mentioned that the government is exploring the integration of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative fuel source for its bus fleet, in line with the government’s commitment to reducing emissions and promoting a cleaner urban environment.

Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Gabriel Dewan Kudangbena, Gbong Gwom Jos His Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba CRF, former Governor of the State Da Senator Jonah Jang, and the Chief Judge of the State Honorable Justice Danladi Mann all commended the initiative, stating that it has the potential to alleviate the transportation challenges faced by the people following the removal of fuel subsidies, which led to an increase in transportation costs.
