Former Senate Minority Leader, Senator Simon Mwadkwon, has expressed deep concern over the continued attacks and killings across Plateau North Senatorial District and other parts of Plateau State, declaring that the persistent bloodshed must come to an immediate end.

The former lawmaker lamented that despite several interventions aimed at restoring peace, innocent citizens continue to lose their lives, homes, and means of livelihood to recurring violence. He described the situation as heartbreaking and unacceptable.

“Despite several interventions and efforts aimed at curtailing the persistent bloodshed, innocent citizens continue to lose their lives, homes, and means of livelihood on a daily basis.”

Senator Mwadkwon particularly faulted the inability of security agencies to decisively tackle the crisis, noting that the constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property must not be compromised under any circumstance.

He warned that the recurring attacks have continued to weaken public confidence in the country’s security architecture and created fear among vulnerable communities struggling for survival.

“The current security strategies and operational capacity deployed to tackle the crisis have not yielded the desired results, thereby emboldening terrorists and other criminal elements to continue unleashing violence on defenseless communities.”

The former senator cited recent attacks in Nding and Gassa communities of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, as well as incidents in Rim Ward of Riyom, Miango in Bassa, Kakuruk in Barkin Ladi, and Jol in Riyom Local Government Area.

He called on the military and other security agencies to urgently adopt more proactive, intelligence-driven, and result-oriented measures capable of ending the killings and restoring lasting peace in the state.

“The military and other security agencies must urgently redouble their efforts and adopt more proactive, intelligence-driven, and result-oriented measures if the persistent killings and attacks across Plateau State must be brought to an end.”

While sympathizing with families affected by the attacks, Mwadkwon prayed for the peaceful repose of those killed and speedy recovery for those injured during the violent incidents.

He also urged vulnerable communities to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and to support security agencies with credible intelligence that could help prevent future attacks.

“The protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government and must never be compromised under any circumstance.”
