In a bold move to restore integrity and transparency to Plateau State’s local government elections, Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang today inaugurated the Chairman and members of the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC). The ceremony, held at the New Government House in Little Rayfield, marks a significant shift towards ensuring free, fair, and credible elections at the grassroots level.
Addressing the new PLASIEC officials, Governor Mutfwang underscored his administration’s commitment to rectifying the electoral flaws of the past and emphasized the need for genuine representation in local governance. “We are here to correct past mistakes and to ensure that Plateau State citizens can truly elect their leaders at the grassroots,” stated Mutfwang.
In a statement issued by Mr Gyang Bere, Director of Press and Public affairs, that The Governor highlighted the rigorous selection process for the appointees, citing their proven track records in public service and their approval by the Plateau State House of Assembly. “The last two local government elections tarnished our state’s reputation. Today’s appointments are a deliberate effort to turn a new page in PLASIEC’s history,” Mutfwang said, praising the experience and integrity of the new team, especially the Chairman, who brings extensive electoral experience.
Governor Mutfwang pledged his administration’s non-interference in PLASIEC’s operations, vowing to support the Commission in upholding democratic principles. “We will allow the people to elect their leaders without interference. Our administration believes in credible leadership at the local level, and we have not misused local government funds,” he declared, reinforcing his commitment to accountability and democratic governance.
The newly appointed Chairman of PLASIEC, Hon. Plangji Daniel Chishak, expressed gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility for the trust placed in him and his team. “We accept these roles with humility and commitment. We will strive to restore confidence in the electoral process and ensure credible local government elections,” Chishak assured.
Joining Hon. Chishak in the Commission are Theresa Kaze, Deborah Akanle, Waziri Kwande, Ado Adare, Audu Dorzhi, and Dr. Longman Pensiwan, with Pam Davou serving as Secretary. Together, they face the crucial task of rebuilding public trust and delivering transparent and fair local government elections in Plateau State.
The inauguration signals a critical juncture for Plateau State’s electoral future, with hopes high that the newly formed PLASIEC will usher in a new era of democratic integrity and local governance.
