A former leader within the Plateau Youth Council (PYC) has raised alarm over what he describes as the degradation of the council’s cherished values and traditions. Comrade Nanle N. Gujor, who served as the former Speaker and is currently the Chairman of the PYC Veterans, has expressed deep concern over recent developments related to the council’s zoning arrangements for leadership positions.

In a strongly-worded statement, Comrade Gujor questioned the integrity of the PYC’s Electoral Committee (Elcom) and its alleged interference with the decisions of the Larger House, an important organ within the council. He emphasized the importance of upholding the PYC’s established practices, particularly in matters of zoning, which he believes are being undermined.

“Haba jama’a! When and how has PYC cherished values been bastardized like this? How can Elcom interfere with an important organ like Larger House?” Gujor lamented, highlighting the urgent need for experienced members of the PYC to intervene and guide the younger generation in preserving the council’s traditions.

Comrade Gujor reminded his fellow veterans and members of the council that the position of PYC Chairman should rightfully go to Bokkos, in accordance with the council’s zoning tradition. He referred to the history of chairmanship within the council, listing past leaders from various regions and underscoring the importance of maintaining this rotational leadership system.

“My heart bleeds for my once cherished PYC,” he said, urging members to put aside political sentiments and ensure that the right thing is done. He also warned against ignoring the advice of veterans and elders within the council, drawing a parallel to the biblical story of Rehoboam, who rejected the wise counsel of elders and faced dire consequences.

Comrade Gujor’s statement serves as a poignant reminder of the need for integrity and adherence to established practices within the PYC as the council navigates its current leadership challenges.
