The North Central Reformed Youth Assembly (NCRYA) has taken a bold step by passing a vote of no confidence on the National Chairman of the Reformed Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Mr. Newman Solomon Maitoro.
The resolution followed an emergency online meeting held on May 12, 2025, with participation from representatives across the North Central states, the executive council, and the board of trustees.
The Assembly cited several reasons for its decision, including alleged misuse of power, autocratic leadership style, and failure to observe due process.
“A vote of no confidence has been unanimously passed on Mr. Newman Solomon Maitoro, effective immediately.”
According to the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, Mr. Maitoro refused to delegate duties to his deputy despite his absence from the country, and was also accused of financial and administrative irregularities.
“Gross misuse of power through the act of subjugation and autocracy. Refusal to handover to the Deputy chairman in the stance of absence from the country.”
The Assembly called on Mr. Maitoro to immediately resign from his position for the sake of restoring peace and integrity to the national leadership.
In his place, Comrade Abubakar Danjuma, the Deputy Chairman, has been appointed to take over in an acting capacity until a substantive chairman is selected.
“Comrade Abubakar Danjuma shall assume responsibility of chairmanship on acting capacity pending when a substantive chairman shall assume responsibility.”
The NCRYA also appealed to the National Patron, Board of Trustees, and other key stakeholders to intervene and save the youth body from what it described as imminent collapse.
The communiqué included a call to security agencies to monitor and caution Mr. Maitoro should he present himself as the chairman moving forward.
“We appeal to all security agencies to take note of Mr Newman Maitoro in any case where he parades himself as the chairman of this noble Assembly.”
Additionally, the Assembly urged the general public to disregard any further claims by Mr. Maitoro to the chairmanship of the youth organization.
“We appeal to the general public to disregard Mr Newman Maitoro Solomon as the chairman of this Assembly.”
Despite the leadership crisis, the North Central Reformed Youth Assembly reaffirmed its commitment to unity, accountability, and the vision of a reformed and purpose-driven youth movement.
