The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the North Central Zone has elected new executives during a peaceful and transparent congress held in Jos, Plateau State.

Mohammed Abdulrahman was elected as the National Vice Chairman of the zone, marking a fresh start as the party positions itself for the 2027 general elections.

Most of the new officers emerged unopposed, in line with the Electoral Act, with voting and counting processes observed in all contested positions.

Other elected officials include Orogu Francis as Zonal Secretary and Ndagana Alhasan as Zonal Youth Leader, among others who will steer the party’s affairs in the zone.

The congress, held at Langfield Leisure Park in Jos, attracted key party stakeholders such as former Senate Presidents, current and former governors, legislators, and other PDP stalwarts.

In his acceptance speech, Mohammed Abdulrahman thanked members for the trust placed in him and promised to reposition the PDP for electoral victories in the zone.

He described the North Central as a traditional stronghold of the PDP and urged members to support the new leadership in rebuilding the party’s winning strength.

Abdulrahman also praised Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, for creating an enabling environment for a peaceful and credible congress.

Governor Mutfwang congratulated the newly elected leaders and charged them to begin work immediately in uniting the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

“We want to congratulate all those elected today, whether by contest or consensus. Special appreciation goes to the electoral committee led by Dr. Kabiru Tenimu Turaki SAN and the local organizing committee headed by Distinguished Senator Napoleon Bali, AVM (rtd), along with the Plateau State chapter of the PDP,” he said.

“Today’s congress was peaceful and successful. It clearly shows that the PDP in the North Central is alive and vibrant. We have shown that we are peace-loving, united, and committed to the ideals of the party,” Mutfwang added.

“To those who stepped down in the spirit of party unity, your sacrifices will not be forgotten. I urge the newly elected executive to hit the ground running, reconcile differences, and build a strong, united front ahead of the 2027 elections,” the governor stated.

Also speaking, the immediate past Vice Chairman, Hon. Theophilus Dakas Shan, and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Senator Napoleon Bali, called on party members to return to their states with renewed commitment to reclaim leadership in the next elections.

Delegates at the congress came from Plateau, Nasarawa, Benue, Niger, Kwara, Kogi, and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
