The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) Plateau Council recently announced it plans to participate in a peaceful protest against the current economic hardships that Nigerians are facing with the national secretariat and other state councils.
The statewide demonstration, which is slated to start on February 27 and extend for two days, was announced by the NLC on February 16 in reaction to the numerous economic challenges that people in the nation are facing.
Mr. Eugene Manji, Chairman of the Plateau NLC, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos on Monday that the state council had finalised the preparations for the demonstration, despite rumours that it would be cancelled due to security concerns.
Manji reiterated that all essential arrangements had been completed during a meeting held by the state executive council and asked all NLC affiliates to get their people ready for the protest that is scheduled to take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The meeting for the last mobilisation has just ended. We are still at the meeting location as I speak to you, and we plan to carry out the protest tomorrow,” he said.
He underlined the significance of widespread involvement and exhorted all affiliates to show support for the labour force and the suffering populace.
Manji reassured those worried about security during the demonstration that enough guards would be there to stop thugs from possibly taking over the demonstration.
In order to complete the security measures for the protest, he also revealed that the NLC would meet with security authorities.
