The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has unveiled the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), highlighting potential weather patterns across the country. Speaking at the event in Abuja, Keyamo disclosed that the northern and central states, including Plateau, Kaduna, Benue, Kwara, and others, are expected to experience a delayed onset of rainfall.
According to the SCP report, the delay will also affect parts of Niger, Nasarawa, Taraba, Adamawa, and Kwara states. On the contrary, southern states such as Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Anambra are predicted to see early rainfall, along with sections of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Lagos, Edo, Enugu, Imo, and Ebonyi. “The rest of the country is predicted to have a normal onset of rain,” Keyamo stated during the presentation.
He emphasized that pre-onset rainfall should not be confused with the actual onset of the rainy season, particularly for those involved in rainfall-dependent activities like agriculture. Keyamo urged farmers and other stakeholders to consult NiMet for accurate onset dates to guide their planning and activities.
The report further indicated that some regions would experience an earlier-than-usual end to the rainy season, especially in parts of Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, and Jigawa, as well as Plateau, Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, and Taraba. Meanwhile, a delayed end to the rainy season is expected in parts of Kaduna, Benue, Lagos, Cross River, Delta, and other southern states.
Keyamo concluded by stressing the importance of referring to the SCP document for proper guidance and planning in all sectors affected by rainfall patterns.
