As Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day, Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, CEO of Kefiano Autos and former Plateau State Governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), highlighted the nation’s journey toward democratic governance and its ongoing challenges and potential.

In a reflective message, Chief Ropshik noted, “Today, Nigeria commemorates Democracy Day, marking the country’s transition to democratic governance. This day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices and relentless efforts that led to the establishment of democracy, underscoring the nation’s collective commitment to the principles of freedom, justice, and participatory governance.”

He emphasized the historic significance of May 29, 1999, when Nigeria returned to civilian rule. “The emergence of democracy in Nigeria symbolized a significant milestone in the nation’s history, offering a new era of hope and the possibility of a brighter future for its citizens,” Ropshik remarked, acknowledging the transformative potential that democracy promised for the country.

However, Ropshik did not shy away from addressing the hurdles that Nigeria faces. He pointed out that despite notable progress, the nation’s democratic journey has been fraught with issues such as corruption, electoral malpractice, and socio-economic disparities. These challenges, he stated, have impeded the full realization of Nigeria’s democratic potential.

Despite these obstacles, Chief Ropshik conveyed a message of optimism rooted in the resilience of the Nigerian people. “The resilience and determination of the Nigerian people provide a foundation for optimism,” he asserted, highlighting the nation’s steadfast belief in overcoming these challenges and strengthening democratic institutions.

Chief Ropshik urged continued efforts towards transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. “With sustained efforts towards transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance, Nigeria can fulfill the promise of democracy, ensuring a more equitable and prosperous future for all,” he concluded, encapsulating a vision for a robust democratic future.

Chief Ropshik’s message rings true as a call to action for renewed dedication to the democratic values that offer a better future for all Nigerians, especially on this historic day as the country considers its democratic path.
