The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD), Chief Ayuba Gufwan, has emphasized the importance of unity among disability stakeholders, stating that “a threefold cord is not quickly broken.”

Chief Gufwan made this remark during a meeting with the Board members of the Voice of Disability Initiatives (VDI) in his office on August 23, 2024.

In his address, Gufwan praised VDI for its long-standing contributions to advocating for the inclusion of persons with disabilities. He acknowledged their past support for the Commission’s campaigns and urged the organization to continue its efforts. “I am aware of your support to the campaign initiatives led by the Commission on many occasions and wish to urge you to keep up the good works,” he said.

Gufwan highlighted that the challenges facing persons with disabilities are far from over and called for continued collaboration among all stakeholders. He emphasized that collective efforts are crucial to achieving the Commission’s goals, stressing that his role as Executive Secretary is a divine calling to serve the community.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for the Board Chairman of VDI, Barr. Daniel C. Uwaezuoke, to congratulate Gufwan on his recent appointment. Uwaezuoke expressed confidence in the strong working relationship between VDI and the Commission, noting that it has already produced significant results.

Furthermore, Chief Ayuba Gufwan reiterating his commitment to the cause, pledging to remain dedicated to improving the lives of all persons with disabilities, regardless of their special needs.

The discussion was further enriched by contributions from other key figures, including Catherine Edeh, the Executive Director of VDI, and Mr. Lawrence Idemudia, Director of the Social Integration Department at NCPWD.

Both highlighted the positive outcomes of previous collaborations and shared hopes for future initiatives that would continue to enhance the lives of persons with disabilities.
