The President of the Mwaghavul Youth Movement, Comrade Jonathan Kyesmang, has condemned the recent mob attack in Mangun community, Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, which occurred on Friday, June 20, 2025. The incident reportedly involved commuters traveling to a wedding in Quanpan LGA and led to injuries and loss of lives.
Kyesmang described the incident as unfortunate and deeply regrettable, stating that the group completely dissociates itself from any form of mob action or violence.
“I wish to state that the Mwaghavul Youth Movement do not and will never support any form of violence, mob action, or jungle justice. Our heritage is one of hospitality, peaceful coexistence, and an uncommon respect for human life and dignity, regardless of ethnic, religious, or regional identity.”
He acknowledged the military’s quick response to the Mangun incident but criticized the inconsistent pace of intervention when Mwaghavul communities have faced attacks.
“We commend the swift intervention of military personnel in responding to the situation, which halted further escalation. However, the Mwaghavul Youth Movement uses this moment to express it’s dismay at the inconsistent speed of security response in the same Mangu LGA of Plateau State, particularly when Mwaghavul communities came under deadly attack since 2023.”
According to him, communities such as Manja, Jwakkas, Sabon Gari, Gyambwas, Yidel, Kubon, and Ajing have suffered repeated attacks with little or no response from security agencies.
Comr. Kyesmang stressed the need for justice and a balanced investigation that addresses all sides of the incident without bias or misinformation.
“Before the Mwaghavul Youth Movement is misquoted, this is not any attempt to shift blame or excuse any act of lawlessness, but to ensure a thorough, transparent, and professional investigation that addresses all sides of the story and prevents misinformation, misrepresentation, or undue escalation.”
He further called on the Plateau State Government and relevant security agencies to ensure justice is served, regardless of ethnic or religious background.
“The Mwaghavul Youth Movement sincerely condoles with families of the effected commutters and calls on the Plateau State Government and, all relevant security agencies to launch an impartial investigation into the incident and bring any perpetrators to justice, irrespective of their ethnic or religious background.”
The Mwaghavul Youth Movement reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and justice, calling on all stakeholders to work together in promoting security and harmony across Plateau State.
