The Jos Electricity Distribution Company has conveyed its condolences following Saturday’s transformer explosion in Kabong, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, which killed six people.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by JED’s Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Friday Adakole, the fire was caused by an explosion that injured several people and damaged residential buildings, including shops in the area.

He went on to say that the electricity company has expressed its condolences to the families of those who died in the incident, and that Jos Electricity Distribution Plc is devastated by the unfortunate incident, which affected customers in its Kabong primary Distribution Transformer in the Kabong area, Rukuba Road Jos.

According to the statement, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was a result of a high-tension line snap onto the low-tension lines which resulted in a voltage supply outside limits.”

The source feeder tripped off and inter-tripped the Transmission end source from Makeri Transmission Station, the statement added that they would continue to monitor the situation closely and communicate the facts of this regrettable incident.

The statement explained that an evaluation of the root causes is underway, and appropriate measures will be put in place to avert future occurrences.

The statement extended gratitude to traditional and community leaders in the area for their assistance in dealing with the aftermath of the tragedy, as well as profound condolences to families who suffered losses as a result of the incident.
