Jennifer Okoye Sport Vibe, in partnership with the Plateau State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (PLASCHEMA), has organized a health seminar to promote wellness ahead of the 4th edition of the De Amazon Road Waka.
The seminar, held at the Usiju World Event Centre in Jos, served as a precursor to the 15-kilometre walk, emphasizing the critical link between preventive healthcare and physical activity.

In her welcome address, the event’s Convener, Jennifer Okoye, explained that De Amazon Road Waka was born from a personal health journey. After experiencing knee pain from jogging, her doctor advised her to switch to walking, inspiring this movement for wellness.
Okoye stated that the event, which began in 2022, was created to help people stay active and live healthier lives through the simple exercise of walking. She noted its consistent growth and encouraged everyone to participate.

The Plateau State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Nicholas Ba’amlong, represented by Dr. Mafwalal Bunan Masok, commended the initiative. He affirmed that the theme, “Every Step for Good Health, Every Mile for Unity,” is a powerful call to action.
Dr. Masok described walking as “medicine for the body and therapy for the mind,” noting its benefits for heart health and stress reduction. He reiterated the Ministry of Health’s commitment to preventive healthcare under Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s administration.

Representing the Acting Director General of PLASCHEMA, Dr. Kwande Solomon Dawal, Director of Marketing Theresa Gofwem connected the theme to community healing. She said the walk helps rebuild trust and strengthen relationships in Plateau State.
Gofwem reaffirmed PLASCHEMA’s commitment to making healthcare accessible and affordable. She encouraged citizens to see every step as a direct contribution to personal wellness and communal unity.

During the seminar, Dietician Michelle Umadi educated participants on nutrition, advocating for a balanced diet rich in natural foods. She highlighted the importance of plant-based proteins like beans and nuts for boosting immunity.

Dr. Amodu, representing Consultant Physician Dr. Daniel Jatau Meshak, spoke on lifestyle medicine, warning against the dangers of inactivity. He emphasized that walking is a natural medicine that strengthens the body and refreshes the mind.

In anticipation, Sports enthusiast Onwu King Godspower, known as MC Emperor, heralded the upcoming De Amazon Road Waka 4.0 as the biggest fitness gathering in Northern Nigeria. He stated that good health extends beyond medication to include regular exercise, a balanced diet, and proper rest.

Joy Ogoh shared her excitement for the event, expecting a refreshing experience that improves sleep and clear thinking. She commended convener Jennifer Okoye for her dedication and creativity in inspiring active living.

Salisu Abdullahi, a committee member, expressed great anticipation for the energetic gathering. He encouraged participants to arrive early at Jay FM, beside the National Library, by 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025, for a memorable event featuring music, dance, and aerobics.
